The Faithful Man
Proverbs 28:20
A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.
God is a Blesser
The LORD is not against His people prospering. Yet there is a right way and a wrong way to prosper. This verse tells us that a faithful man shall abound in blessings, or, that is to say, he shall have much blessing in his life, both spiritual and natural.
What Does Faithful Mean?
The word translated “faithful” in this verse means to be stable, steady and firm. The faithful man is the one who walks with the LORD over time, in a steady fashion, not pulled in many directions, but each day following the LORD and simply doing what he knows to be right. God blesses faithfulness. The faithful will abound, or overflow, with blessings.
He Who Makes Haste
But, on the other hand, he who presses or hastens and labors to accumulate wealth shall not be pure, clean and guiltless. It’s not that wealth is inherently evil, but men who hasten to obtain it tend to find evil ways to reach their desired goal.
Be Faithful
Let the goal and focus of our lives be to develop a faithful walk before the LORD, rather than running after wealth and riches. The Bible tells us to seek first the kingdom of God, and, in doing so, all the things that men run after will be provided for us. Let's go after the blessing that only God can give us.
