Be Still and Know
Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God . . .
Be Still
The word translated here as “Be still” means several things. It means to be quiet, to refrain from, to let go, to abandon, to relax, or to withdraw, to mention just a few of its meanings.
One of the most difficult things for human beings to do is to calm down and let go. Our minds are constantly busy at something. And if, for some reason, the mind is not busy, then we are looking for something to occupy our thinking with. Yet the Bible tells us that the Lord speaks to us by the still small voice, or, that is to say, the whisper of His Spirit. It’s hard to hear a whisper in the midst of a hail storm.
Be Still and Know I am God
Sometimes it’s just good to get away to a quiet place with the Lord, shut out all the distractions, and give Him the opportunity to speak to our heart. Occasionally we need to come apart to Him so that we don’t come apart at the seams.
Come apart before you come apart. Take time today to get away with the Lord, to get still, and to know that He is God.
