His Word Endures Forever
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
1 Peter 1:24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
New Creatures
The Bible teaches that those who are born of God are new creatures, born from heaven, not by the corruptible seed of man, but by the incorruptible seed of God Himself, which is the word of God. The flesh is not reborn, as Jesus told Nicodemus in John Chapter 3, but the spirit of man is born from above.
The Inward Man
In another place, the Bible tells us that, though the outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. That is to say, our outward man is growing older, but our inward man, our newborn spirit, is growing as the days go by.
The Food of the Word
How does it grow? Peter tells us, in one of his letters to the Church, to desire the milk of the word, as newborn infants, that we may grow thereby. So, this new creature in Christ is not only born of the word, but he also grows by the word of God.
The Outward Man
The Scripture text in 1 Peter 1:23-25 illustrates this principle. The flesh, or the outward man, is like grass. The grass grows for a while, and even produces a beautiful flower, but ultimately the grass withers, and its beauty, the flower, falls away.
The Word Endures Forever
But that’s not the end of the story. It says that the word of the Lord endures forever. This is the same word that believers are born again by, and the same word that they feed on and grow by. The flesh is gradually perishing, but the new man, the spirit man, is growing stronger, and he will live forever.
Be Nourished by the Word
Take time to feed on the word of God each and every day. Meditate in it, ponder it, feed upon it, and grow in understanding and in the knowledge of God. Let the new man, the eternal man, the man who will live forever, be built up and strengthened within you today.
