Praying God’s Will
1 John 5:14-15
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
Confidence in Him
The word “confidence” in this verse means the free and fearless assurance we can have in the LORD when we ask according to His will. It also means “cheerful courage.” We are cheerful and courageous in our prayers, when we know that we are praying in line with His will.
How Do We Know God’s Will?
There are many ideas and notions about what the will of God may or may not be. But one thing we can be sure of is that if He has promised something in His word, then it is, without any doubt, His will for us. When we pray to Him, based on His promises, the promises found in His word, we can be certain that He hears us.
If we pray according to His will, His promises, and we know that He therefore has heard our prayer, then we can have full confidence and certainty that we will, at some point, have what we have asked for.
Pray with Confidence
Begin today to search out the promises that God has given us in His word. And then use those promises as the basis for your prayers, the things you are requesting from the LORD. Let the confidence of knowing that you’re praying God’s will strengthen your prayer life. And rest securely in that confidence.
