The Name of the LORD Our God
Psalm 20:7-8
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.
Where Do We Put Our Trust?
There are many things that people put their trust in. Some put confidence in their money and wealth, or their good looks. Some put a lot of stock in their physical strength, determination, and will power, to overcome the problems of life. Some trust in their ability to face a bad situation and figure out a solution, by sheer intellect and reasoning. Some trust is the notion that everything is just going to work out in the long run.
Trusting the LORD
But, in this verse, the psalmist, King David, says that he will not put trust in strength or might, chariots or horses, or in the strength of armies, but rather will trust in the name of the LORD his God. And he goes on to say that the ones, his enemies, who trusted in those other things, strength and might, are brought down and fallen, while we, who trust in the name of the LORD, have risen, and are standing upright.
This psalm is a testimony to the futility of trusting in anything other than the LORD Himself. He is the One Who can overcome any problem, situation, or enemy.
Call On His Name
Let us remember the name of the LORD our God today, and call upon that name as we face the obstacles and difficulties of life. Let's give Him our trust. Trusting in Him is not a vain and wasted effort, but a step toward ultimate success and victory in every area of our lives.
