Blessed with Favor
Psalm 5:12
For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
The Righteous
The Bible is full of promises, which are often referred to as the promises of God. This is one of those great promises, that the LORD will cause favor to surround, or compass about, the righteous. What does that mean? It means that supernatural favor and grace will be upon and surround the lives of those who are the righteous. Who are the righteous? The righteous are those who believe upon Jesus. The righteousness that’s important to the LORD is the righteousness that comes by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, which is given to everyone who believes upon Him, the free gift of righteousness.
As with a Shield
So then, favor is a redemptive blessing and benefit that belongs to the redeemed, those who have been made righteous by faith. And the verse goes on to say that the righteous will be surrounded with favor as with a shield. In other words, this favor has the effect of protecting the one who possesses it, as a shield would protect a soldier from harm in battle.
Take Hold of Favor
How do we get the favor promised in this verse to operate in our lives? Like all the promises of God, it must be received by faith, faith in the promise. One way to lay claim to the promise is to speak it out as your own, to thank God for it in prayer and confession of His word.
Lay hold of God’s favor today. Thank Him for His word, for His promise of favor surrounding you. And then confess the Scripture that allows us to boldly confess that I am blessed with favor, everywhere I go and in everything I do, and I am surrounded with that favor, and it protects me like a shield.
