Trusting in Him
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
Trust is of the Heart
Trusting in the LORD is a matter of the heart. It involves leaning on something other than our own understanding, our own discernment, our own wisdom. This implies that we may not be, in reality, as smart and resourceful as we think we are. Trusting God requires that we not view ourselves as wise and shrewd and cunning, or, that is to say, not being wise in our own estimation of ourselves. And that’s called humility.
Who is in Control?
It’s difficult to trust the LORD while we ourselves are in control of things. And giving control over to the LORD is where we often have the most struggles. We want to lean on our own understanding, and do things our own way, and rely on our own wisdom and resources.
How to Trust
This passage of Scripture in Proverbs 3:5-7 gives us some important instructions on how to relinquish control over to the LORD, and put our trust totally in Him. We are to trust Him with our heart, not our head. We are to make Him known in all our ways, our manner of life, our paths. And as we do so, He will direct us. And we are not to view ourselves as wise, but rather give reverence to Him, and depart from all evil.
Begin today to build a life of trust in Him. If God’s word promises you something, then believe it with your heart, even if your head has a struggle with it. Stop leaning on your own wisdom and ability, and allow God to do what only He can do with His ability. Roll your cares over to Him in prayer, and take the burden off yourself. Put your trust in Him.
