Let Peace Rule
Colossians 3:15
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
An Umpire to Make Decisions
The Greek word translated here as “rule” means to act as an umpire, to direct, to control, to decide or determine. This verse is saying that we should allow the peace of God to act as an umpire for us, to direct our actions, to control us, and to help us make right decisions.
Knowing His Will
Sometimes believers have difficulty in determining what they should do in a situation. They struggle with the question of what the will of God is for them to do. But the answer can usually be found by looking inwardly and determining what path is accompanied by peace. And that requires taking enough time in meditation and prayer to sense what is going on within the heart.
Overriding His Peace
Often people will say something like, “I had a feeling I shouldn’t do that. But I did it anyway.” Or, “Something told me not to do that.” It’s easy to override those inner reservations of our heart. That’s why the Bible tells us to allow the peace of God to rule in our hearts, to guide us with an inward witness, based in peace.
Don’t Let Emotions Lead You
It’s also important to get the emotions under control. We are not talking about being led by feelings, but rather by an inward supernatural sense of God's peace. Emotions, such as anger, anxiety, and fear, can have the effect of driving us to make wrong decisions, decisions that are not based in peace.
Let the peace of God rule in your heart today. The LORD guides us with His peace, the peace that we are able to sense and recognize in our heart, when we take time to look for it. If you don't have peace about something, don't do it. Let His peace be the guiding force of your life, today and every day.
