Be Anxious for Nothing
Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Trust in the LORD
The subject of overcoming worry and anxiety is a big subject in the Bible. Much is spoken, in both Old Testament and New, about trusting the LORD, and putting our hope and expectation for good in Him.
Don’t be Worried
This passage is a good New Testament example. The Apostle Paul is writing to the Philippian church, and he tells them to not be anxious or worried, or troubled about anything. Most people in this world, both unbelievers and believers alike, would answer that it would be impossible to never be in worry and anxiety. Yet it is in the Bible. You might say that the Holy Spirit, through the apostle Paul, is telling us to never worry about anything.
Prayer with Thanksgiving
How is that possible? Paul continues by telling us that in every thing by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, to let our requests be made known to God. Not just prayer and supplication, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. To get into thanksgiving, we must at some point come out of worry and anxiety. We must know what God promises in His word, and let that be what we take to God in prayer, thanking Him that our situation is taken care of, because of His promise. That takes trust.
Believing and Trusting
Believing and trusting are two different things. It’s easy to believe the Bible, because it is God’s word, and God doesn’t lie. But it’s another thing to trust God and His word enough to let go of worry and fear and anxiety, and thank Him that He has promised to take care of this, and refusing to worry about it any more. That is, however, the place where we release it over to Him, and give Him the authority to do something about it. As long as we allow ourselves to remain troubled and anxious about it, it is our problem to deal with, not His. When we put our trust in His promise, then it’s His problem to handle.
The Peace of God
Paul goes on to say that, if we do step one and two, that is, we refuse to be troubled about it, and we pray about it with thanksgiving, then the peace of God that passes understanding will keep and guard our hearts in Christ Jesus. His supernatural peace, the peace that Jesus gave us, will fill our heart, and comfort our mind. We can exchange our worries and cares for His peace.
Release your cares and concerns to Him today. Jesus said for us to let not our hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. If that were impossible to do, then Jesus would not have told us to do it. Roll your cares over on the LORD today, and let His peace fill your heart instead.
