He Has Given to the Poor
Psalm 112:9
He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.
The Blessed Man
Psalm 112 is the Psalm of the blessed man, the man who fears the LORD, and delights greatly in His commandments. It lists a number of things this man does, and a number of things that come as a result in his life.
He Has Dispersed
In addition to fearing the LORD and delighting in His word, we can also see that this man blesses others. It says that he has dispersed, or, that is, he has scattered, as one scatters seed, and he has given to the poor.
Sowing Seed
The idea of sowing seed in giving is not a New Testament concept. It can be seen in many places in the Old Testament. The Bible talks about honoring the LORD with your substance and with the first fruit of your increase, and it talks about considering the poor to be like lending to the LORD, a loan which He will repay. One verse says to cast your bread upon the waters, and after many days you will find it.
Blessed to be a Blessing
The message seems to come through clearly that those who bless others become blessed of the LORD. The three things that are near and dear to the LORD’s heart are the Church, the advancing the Gospel in the earth, and helping the poor and needy.
The Curse of Poverty
Men were never meant to be poor, needy, and desolate. That came with the curse, which God desires to remove from men through the Gospel, and the redemption that is in Christ. And he uses men and women to help those who are in that situation, until they too can be delivered. It’s God’s desire to bless and save.
Exalted of the LORD
It goes on to say that his righteousness endures forever, and his horn shall be exalted with honor. When a person develops the lifestyle habit of doing those things that please the LORD, then the blessing of the LORD comes upon Him. His righteous acts bring forth enduring fruit in his life, and the LORD exalts him with honor.
Start developing the lifestyle habit of giving today. Begin to lay up treasures for yourself in heavenly places, where moth nor rust can corrupt them, by giving into those things that are dear to God’s heart, and let the blessing of the LORD begin to sustain your life.
