He Shall Not Be Afraid
Psalm 112:7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
Psalm 112:8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
The Blessed Man
Here are two more verses about the blessed man of Psalm 112, which says in verse 1 that “blessed” is the man who fears the LORD, and who delights greatly in God’s commandments.
His Heart is Fixed
It says in verse 7 that he shall not be afraid of evil tidings, that his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. He is not moved by troubling reports or bad news, because his heart is firmly set, having bold and unshakable confidence in the LORD. How does he get this kind of confidence? Simply put, it comes from delighting in the word of God, meditating in it, and being a doer of the word.
Be Careful For Nothing
The Bible tells us to be careful, or that is, anxious or worried about nothing. But many who believe the Bible do not seem to adhere to the notion that a person can live without ever taking anxious thought about things. Freedom from worry, however, is a state of mind that believers are called to live in, but can do so only if they develop trust in the LORD. The Bible says that God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him.
The Established Heart
Verse 8 goes on to say that this man’s heart is established, or, that is to say, it is upheld by and is leaning on his trust in God, and that he shall not be afraid. He remains fearless until he overcomes his enemies. Can you imagine a life completely free from fear, in every form? It is the life that He means for His children to live.
Take courage today, and begin to resist every form of fear in your life. The Bible says that fear has torment, and so, it is not something that should be allowed in us. Get into the promises of God, and ponder them. Let them fill your heart with faith, and the resulting trust in the LORD will drive fear out of your life.
