Mighty Upon Earth
Psalm 112:2
His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
The Blessed Man
The first verse of Psalm 112 says that blessed is the man who fears the LORD, and delights greatly in His commandments. Verse 2 gives the first of a list of blessings that this man experiences in his life.
Blessed Children
This person’s seed shall be mighty upon earth, the Bible says, meaning his offspring, his descendants, his children, his posterity. This man, who fears the LORDS, and delights in God’s commandments, is a source of blessing, even for the children he brings into this world. And some might argue that there is no greater blessing in life than to see one’s children prosperous and blessed.
Blessed Habitation
The verse goes on to say that the generation of the upright shall be blessed. As we look at the Concordance meanings of the words used here, it can be seen that a better rendering of the statement might be that the habitation or dwelling (the generation) of the ones who are right with God (the upright) is blessed, or praise-worthy, or to be admired. So, this man's home life is blessed.
The Benefits of the LORD
The blessing of the LORD is not just about financial success and provision, though that’s a part of it. His blessing includes great benefits in every area of life, as, in this case, in the area of having a blessed habitation, and having blessed children, who prosper mightily upon earth.
How Do We Get This?
What are the requirements for this kind of life? Verse 1 gives us the answer to that question. It tells us that blessed is the man who fears or reverences or respects the LORD, and who delights greatly in hearing and keeping His commandments, or, that is, he delights in hearing and obeying the instructions of God's word.
Dig into His word today. Meditate in it. Ponder it. The Bible tells us that all of God’s creation is being upheld by the word of His power. That same power of His word can and will uphold our lives in a blessed way as we delight ourselves in it.
