Blessed of the LORD
Psalm 112:1
Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
The Source of God’s Blessing
Psalm 112 is an amazing Psalm about the blessed man, or, the man who has the blessing of the LORD in His life. It starts out in verse one by giving the source of that blessing.
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, and who delights in His word. The Bible tells us that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. It speaks of respecting and giving reverence to the LORD. That’s where wisdom begins, and that’s where the blessing of the LORD starts.
Delighting in His Word
How do we know that one is reverencing the LORD, or walking in the fear of the LORD? He delights greatly in His commandments. In other words, he has a desire to be obedient to the word of God, and do as the LORD says in His word. He is a doer of the word, and not a hearer only. Moreover, this man loves the truth of God’s word, and he seeks out that truth daily, in reading and pondering the word of God. He delights in the word of truth.
Blessed of God
The Psalm goes on to list several specific blessings that can be seen in this man’s life. The Bible tells us that the blessing of the LORD comes upon and overtakes those who love and obey Him.
It is likely that you are already one who fears the LORD, or you probably would not be reading this commentary. Take time today to pursue the truth of His word. Develop a lifestyle of meditation and pondering His words, and allow the power of His word to begin to work mightily in your life. Blessed is the man whose delight is in the law of the LORD.
Psalm 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
