Every Good Gift

James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

God is Always Good

If you study the Hebrew words that make up this verse, using a good Concordance, the verse could be restated as follows. Every good, pleasant, and excellent thing given to us, and every complete bounty is from on high, from a higher place, and descends down to us from the Father of lights, with Whom there is no variation or change, nor is there any shadow of the turning, as of the turning of the heavenly bodies.

God is good. This Scripture verse tells us that every good thing we receive comes down from Him. It also goes on to say that He never changes, or, that is to say, He always sends down good things that bless us. He never sends down bad stuff to us.

No Shadow of Turning

It also says there is no shadow of turning with Him. The sun casts a shadow as it goes through its daily cycle. Sundials were once used to judge the time of the day, based on the position and size of the shadow. To say that there is no shadow of turning with the LORD is to say that He doesn’t go through phases, but remains the same. He is always good, and He always sends good and perfect gifts.

Trust in His goodness today. He blesses those who put their trust in Him and in His unchanging, unfailing goodness. Those things that come into our lives that are not good and perfect have not come from Him. But He has a solution for every situation we may be dealing with. Lift your eyes to the Father of lights, and receive His blessing, and His help.
