Let the Peace of God Rule
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. (Colossians 3:15 KJV)
The peace of God is more than the absence of trouble. It is an inward calm that remains even when outward circumstances are adverse. This peace is not produced as the result of favorable circumstances. It is the result of trusting in God.
Paul tells us to let God's peace "rule" in our hearts. The word "rule" is like an umpire making a decision. When anxious thoughts, fear, or confusion seek to take control, God's peace should have the deciding call.
If our heart is troubled and anxious, we have allowed it to drift into worry. We need to "allow" God's peace to take control by letting go of our worries and totally trusting in Him.
Peace and the Thankful Heart
Paul also connects peace with thanksgiving. A thankful heart is a peaceful heart because it is ever remembering God's faithfulness. Gratitude shifts our attention away from our problems and back upon the Lord who can be trusted to take care for us.
Today, allow the peace of God to govern your heart. Take your worries to the Lord in prayer and leave them there. As you trust Him and give thanks for His faithfulness, His peace will become a steady reality in your life.
