Draw Near to God

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. (James 4:8 KJV)

God desires a close relationship with His children. He is not distant nor unwilling to be known to us. Instead, He gives us a wonderful invitation: "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you."

Every relationship requires time and attention. Our relationship with God is no different. When we become overly busy with the responsibilities of life, it is easy to allow our time with Him to become less important. We may still believe in God and even love Him, yet we gradually find ourselves feeling distant from Him.

What should we do? The answer is simple: draw near again.

Spend some time talking with the Lord. Open the Bible and listen to what He has to say. Revisit the promises of God. Worship Him and turn your attention toward Him. As you deliberately make room for God in your life, you will once again become increasingly aware of His presence.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29 KJV)

God is not hiding from us. He wants us to know Him. He desires fellowship with us. But the verse we looked at said to draw nigh to God, and then He will draw nigh to us. We need to make the first move.

If you've felt distant from the Lord lately, take a step toward Him today. His promise is certain to us: when we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us.
