The Power of His Words
Proverbs 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
Proverbs 4:21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
Proverbs 4:22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Attend to My Words
Hearing the word of God is of vital importance in the life of every believer. This verse in Proverbs exhorts us to attend to, or give attention to, the word of God, to hearken to, heed, and give ear to. It’s talking about more than an occasional glance in that direction.
Bend Your Ear
It goes on to say incline your ear, or stretch out your neck with sharp attention, toward My sayings. Do not let My words depart from your eyes, or, that it, look at them with undivided attention. And keep them in the center of your heart.
Take Heed How You Hear
Jesus, when speaking about hearing the word of God, said for us to take heed how we hear. He went on to say that with the same measure we hear the word, by that same measure it would be measured to us. In the Parable of the Sower, He gave four levels of hearing the word of God, when it is sown in the heart, describing the word as being sown by the wayside, in stony places, among thorns, or in good soil.
Find His Words
The message is clear. We will advance in the things of God’s kingdom to the degree that we hear the word of God. The writer goes on to say that they, the words of God, His sayings, are life to those who find them, and health, or medicine, to all their flesh. The word of God must be found, as we search it out. And the result of finding His words is a greater measure of life and health.
Take time today to dig into the word of God, and look deeply into His truth. The more we ponder His word, the more we meditate in it, the more of His divine blessing will come into our lives. They, His words, are life unto those who find them, and health to all their flesh.
