The Precious Blood of Christ
1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1 Peter 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
The Blood of Bulls and Goats
There were many sacrifices and offerings made in the Old Testament days. It was necessary to offer the blood of bulls and goats, and lambs, to purify men enough for God to dwell among them. The Bible tells us, however, that those offerings were never enough to cleanse our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
The Precious Blood of Christ
It took the blood of Christ to deliver men from sin. And Peter refers to it as the precious blood of Christ. The word “precious” means of great value. The blood of Jesus was the only innocent blood that could come from man. It was rare and very precious. And it was shed in one moment of time, for all men of all time.
Jesus is referred to as the Lamb of God, yet He was not a lamb. He was a man. It took the blood of a man to redeem men. Jesus was symbolically the Lamb of God, the eternal sin offering, Who takes away the sin of the world.
