Grow in Grace
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
(2 Peter 3:18 KJV)
The Christian life is not meant to stand still. The moment we receive Christ, we begin a lifelong journey of growing in our relationship with Him. Just as a healthy child continues to grow through various phases all the way to adulthood, God desires His children to continually grow and mature in faith.
Growing in grace means learning to depend more fully upon the Lord each day. We become increasingly aware that His strength is greater than our own, and we learn to trust in that strength, and in the divine grace that comes with it. His wisdom is higher than ours, and His ways are best.
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
(1 Peter 2:2 KJV)
Peter also tells us to grow in the knowledge of God's Word. This involves receiving the Word of God as our food, as our daily bread, or like the milk that an infant grows by. This is far more than just gaining information about Him. It is coming to know Him personally through His Word.
Ask the Lord today to help you continue growing in His grace and in the knowledge of God. Open the Bible and ponder His promises. No matter how long you have walked with Him, there is always more in His Word to learn, more to receive from His grace, and more of His goodness to discover.
