Saved by Mercy

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
(Titus 3:5 KJV)

Our relationship with God does not begin because we have earned it. No amount of good works could ever remove our sin from us or make us righteous before the Lord. Salvation is a free gift that flows to us from God's great mercy.

Mercy is the giving of a kindness that is not deserved. It is God withholding the judgment we should have received, and by HIs kindness giving us blessings we never deserved. Because of His mercy, not our goodness, He provided salvation through Jesus Christ and He offers forgiveness to all who place their faith in Him.

This truth should fill our hearts with gratitude and humility. We cannot boast that we are saved, for our hope rests entirely upon what Christ has accomplished. Every believer stands before God on the same foundation of His mercy.

Take time today to be thankful to the Lord for His merciful gift of salvation. That mercy has changed our eternal destiny, making us new creatures in Christ, and His love continues to guide us in our lives day by day.
